Meet the orthopedic surgeon serving as a medical delegate for the 2020 Paralympics

An orthopedic surgeon from Washington state is heading to Tokyo for the 2020 summer Paralympics in August.

Doug Hiller, MD, will be the medical delegate for the Paralympics triathlon event, The Spokesman-Review reported Aug. 7. In the role, he will help with race-day safety measures and will help athletes at a medical tent or near the finish line.

Dr. Hiller was part of the group that brought the triathlon event to the Olympics. He was the U.S. team’s head doctor when the event was introduced to the Olympics in the late 1990s. He’s on the World Triathlon Medical and Anti-Doping Committee and has been a triathlon medical delegate for the U.S. since 2000.

Dr. Hiller is a surgeon at Whitman Orthopedic Clinic in Colfax, Wash.
