The study, published in the Journal of Law and Economics, found that physicians cut back their workload by almost two hours per week when the expected liability risk increases by 10 percent.
The reductions are the equivalent to one of every 35 physicians retiring without a replacement.
The study also found solo physicians and those over age 55 are far more sensitive to changes in liability risk than other physicians.
