Louisiana surgical hospital purchases spine robot: 5 things to know

Lafayette, La.-based Park Place Surgical Hospital purchased a spine surgery robot, the first in southern Louisiana, according to News 15.

Here are five things to know.

1. Park Place purchased the robot in partnership with Louisiana Orthopedic Specialists. The hospital was established in 1999 by a group of surgeons and partnered with Our Lady of Lourdes in 2006 to deliver the highest level of care possible to patients.

2. The physician-owned facility achieved CMS five-star rating last December and the 2017 Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades.

3. The hospital currently has 10 orthopedic surgeons, including two spine surgeons who perform spinal fusions.

4. The new robotic technology aims to decrease incision size and surgical time while also limiting radiation exposure.

5. Louisiana Orthopedic Specialists includes 13 fellowship-trained physicians focused on orthopedic and spine care.
