According to the report, Dr. Thompson billed Blue Cross Blue Shield Association for whirlpool treatments in a Hubbard Tank when no tank existed at any clinic owned or operated by Dr. Thompson. Twenty counts of healthcare fraud resulted from this charge.
Fifty-two counts of healthcare fraud associated with billings to State Farm Insurance resulted from recorded visits by undercover agents to Dr. Thompson’s chiropractic practice, according to the report. Dr. Thompson was suspected of billing State Farm for more expensive treatments than the ones provided for these visits.
Dr. Thompson’s wife, Amanda Jo Roy Alexander Thompson, was also indicted as a result of her working in the billing and paperwork for the practice, but charges against her were dropped after Dr. Thompson took responsibility for all wrong-doing, according to the report.
Dr. Thompson will be sentenced on Jan. 27 and faces a maximum of 10 years in prison on each count for submitting fraudulent billing claims to State Farm and Blue Cross Blue Shield.
