The type of personal health information breached was not disclosed. While the laptop has not been recovered, a suspect was arrested in the case, according the report. Beth Israel Deaconess hired a forensic firm to investigate the data breach, and they have found no indication that the personal health information has been misused.
According to the report, the hospital routinely protects information on company-issued computers, but in this case, the computer was the physician’s personal property. Beth Israel Deaconess is implementing a mandatory encryption program for all devices used while at the hospital.
