La Sierra University raising funds for athletic program through Frank Jobe gala: 4 notes

Riverside, Calif.-based La Sierra University is hosting The Frank Jobe Memorial Gala to raise funds for its athletic program.

Here’s what you should know.

 

1. Frank Jobe, MD, is a La Sierra alum. Dr. Jobe performed the first ulnar collateral ligament reconstruction surgery on former pitcher Tommy John. The surgery later was known as Tommy John surgery.

 

2. Tommy John will speak at the event, held on April 25, 2017.

 

3. Dr. Jobe graduated from La Sierra University in 1949. The university named Dr. Jobe its Alumnus of the Year in 2013. Dr. Jobe passed away on March 6, 2014.

 

4. All funds from the event will benefit the university’s athletic department.
