The HIE will eliminate the time-consuming back-and-forth, manual process that the SSA currently uses to file patient claims by automating the process, consequently shortening the time needed to file and collect medical records.  The pilot will begin in the coming month and will include several Kaiser Permanente facilities in southern California, according to the report.

With the HIE, Kaiser will join the 13 current partners that exchange data across the NwHIN network with the SSA.
