Joseph MaroonJoseph C. Maroon, MD (University of Pittsburgh Medical Center). Dr. Maroon is a clinical professor of neurological surgery at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and director of Tri-State Neurosurgical Associates. He also serves as the team neurosurgeon for the Pittsburgh Steelers and co-developed the ImPACT concussion assessment used in professional, college and amateur sports.

 

Dr. Maroon has a special interest in developing minimally invasive surgical procedures, preventing traumatic injury and complementary approaches to inflammatory diseases associated with aging. He has received several honors throughout his career, including recognition from neurosurgical societies in Japan, Korea, Thailand, Egypt, Brazil, Lebanon and China. He also served as president of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons and was medical director of the World Wrestling Entertainment Corporation.

 

Dr. Maroon earned his medical degree and neurosurgical training at Indiana University, Georgetown University, Oxford University and the University of Vermont.
