James Zucherman, MD (San Francisco Spine Surgeons). Dr. Zucherman is a spine surgeon at San Francisco Orthopaedic Surgeons with a special interest in neurological surgery. He is a senior partner in the group and program co-director of the Stanford/St. Mary’s Hospital Combined Spine Surgery Fellowship Program.
Dr. Zucherman is also a founding member of the St. Mary’s Spine Center. In addition to his clinical practice, he developed and performed the first laparoscopic lumbar spinal fusion and percutaneous cervical discectomy in the United States. He was also a pioneer in pedicle screw instrumentation and principal investigator in artificial disc replacement trials. He co-developed the X-STOP procedure and has several articles in peer-review journals.
Dr. Zucherman earned his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and completed the San Francisco Orthopaedic Residency Program. His additional training includes an orthopedic spine surgery fellowship at the University of Hong Kong.
