Produced in response to a request by the National Institute of Health, the report provides an assessment of the state of the science of pain medicine and offers recommendations to the federal government on advancing the pain management field.
Although implementation will be a slow process, experts predict the NIH might designate a lead institute with the NIH to advance pain research, develop a comprehensive pain management strategy for the country and develop a strategy that addresses barriers to care for pain patients.
