IOH’s Dr. Sandy Kunkel Performs Rotator Cuff Surgery on Indiana Governor

Sandy Kunkel, MD, an orthopedic surgeon, recently performed outpatient rotator cuff surgery on Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels at Indiana Orthopaedic Hospital Northwest in Indianapolis, according to a Chicago Tribune report.

Gov. Daniels may have sustained the injury during a Dec. 2009 fall where he hurt his shoulder, but physicians say that normal wear and tear could also have contributed to the injury. Gov. Daniels is expected to return to the Statehouse office sometime next week.

His post surgery rehabilitation will include four months of physical therapy and wearing a sling for several weeks.
