Here are five highlights:
1. The American Fitness Index looks at factors such as how often residents exercise, what percentage are obese and how much parkland is available.
2. Minneapolis-St. Paul came in second, followed by Denver, Portland, Ore., and San Francisco rounding out the top five.
3. Washington D.C., Minneapolis-St. Paul and Denver saw more walking by residents, more parkland and lower levels of cardiovascular disease and diabetes.
4. Overall, cities showed a 4.7 percent drop in the rate of people who smoked, compared to 2015, and an 11.8 percent increase in people who say they exercised in the last 30 days.
5. Conversely, there was a 7 percent increase in people reporting a diagnosis of diabetes compared to 2015.
