Hospital for Special Surgery Records Low Hip Surgery Infection Rate

Hospital for Special Surgery has reported a significantly lower infection rate for hip surgery than the New York State average for the fourth year in a row.

Surgeons perform nearly 4,200 hip replacement surgeries annually, which is around 15 percent of all hip replacement surgeries performed in the state. The hospital reported a 0.4 percent infection rate among these patients last year, compared with the state average of 1.12 percent.
