Hospital for Special Surgery Radiologists Develop Safe MRI Protocols for Total Knee Replacements

Hospital for Special Surgery radiologists have devised a method for imaging total knee replacements without distortion from the implant or damaging the total knee replacement, according to a column written by Helene Pavlov, MD, chief radiologist for HSS, and published in the Huffington Post.

While metal from the prosthesis and MRI are incompatible, using MRI protocols developed by HSS radiologists allow for safe total knee replacement imaging. These images can help surgeons assess unexpected postsurgical discomfort.
