HHS Office of Civil Rights Issues 150 HIPAA Audits by KPMG

KPMG, a national consulting services firm, will conduct 150 audits of healthcare organizations in order to provide the HHS Office of Civil Rights with information on common gaps in the security of protected health information, according to a Health Data Management report.

Two KPMG officials will walk through the audit process at the Healthcare Financial Management Association’s National Institute June 24 to June 27 in Las Vegas. According to the report, Mark Higdon, partner in KPMG’s healthcare advisory unit, advises that healthcare providers conduct an internal risk assessment to prepare for the audits.

Details on the healthcare providers that will be selected for the audit were not disclosed.
