Health Volunteers Overseas Recognize 3 Orthopedic Surgeons

Three orthopedic surgeons have been recognized with the Health Volunteers Overseas’ 2012 Golden Apple Award, according to an AAOS Now report.

The recipients include Timothy Desmond Brown, MD, Lawrence H. Gordon, MD, and Robert E. Stein, MD.

Dr. Brown is the director of pediatric orthopedics for Boston Medical Center and has served as a volunteer with Orthopaedics Overseas at Angkor Hospital for Children in Cambodia and is interested in orthopedic problems in the developing world. His clinical interests include scoliosis care and musculoskeletal trauma in children.

Dr. Stein is an orthopedic surgeon with Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance and founder of the Orthopaedics Overseas program, designed to teach orthopedic surgery in Bhutan. He has been program chairman since its inception. He previously received the Presidential Service Award for his efforts.

No information was available on Dr. Gordon.
