Hawaii neurosurgeon discusses minimally invasive spine surgery: 3 things to know

Here are three things to know from Dr. Beringer.

 

1. The standard diameter for a spinal fusion using minimally invasive surgery is around the size of a quarter on either side or less than an inch.

 

2. Minimally invasive spine surgery decreases blood loss and pain and makes recovery and surgery time faster.

 

3. It takes a spinal fusion about an hour and half to complete and a herniated disc around 45 minutes when performing minimally invasive surgery.
