Gwinnett Medical Center – Duluth’s Concussion Institute now working with professional athletes: 5 insights

The Concussion Institute of Gwinnett Medical Center – Duluth announced it will be a provider for current and former professional football players who have suffered from concussions while competing.

Here are five insights: 

1. The Concussion Institute will provide multiple tests to patients including, pre-morbid intellectual ability, dementia, complex attention/processing speed, executive functioning, performance vitality and learning and memory capabilities.

 

2. The Concussion Institute Medical Director Saadiq El-Amin, MD, will provide sports related medical evaluations.

 

3. Dr. El-Amin said, “GMC-Duluth’s Concussion Institute has the capabilities to provide the cognitive testing required for current and former professional athletes so they may obtain needed treatment.”

 

4. Gwinnett Medical Center’s Sports Program’s services include orthopedic medicine and surgery, sports psychology, concussion treatment, rehabilitation and physical therapy and fitness and performance enhancement.

 

5. Gwinnett Medical Center’s Sports Program provides athletic trainer services for 17 high schools, and is the official healthcare provider for the Atlanta Gladiators and the Gwinnett Braves.
