Future Biomedical Park in Florida May Include Athleticode

Athleticode, a system for testing genetic predisposition to sports injuries such as concussions or ACL tears, is the first commercial company considered by Jackson Laboratory, a company based in Bar Harbor, Maine, for future development in a proposed biomedical park in Florida, according to a Naples News report.

Atheticode, founded by former NFL player James Kovach, MD, provides direct-to-customer genetic tests indicating an athlete’s predisposition to sports-related injuries. After a genetic work-up, the athlete could receive a tailored exercise program based on personal injury propensity.

Jackson Laboratory is currently planning to establish a genetics research institute and then serve as an anchor for other biomedical research groups and companies in the area.
