The FTC’s “Red Flags” Rule Web site currently offers resources to help entities determine if they are covered under the new Rule, such as a compliance template, guidance manuals and a frequently asked questions section. The FTC will offer additional guidance through its Web site, including a special link for entities with small and low-risk of identity theft and a FAQ regarding how the FTC plans to enforce the Rule.
The three-month extension and new guidance are designed to help small businesses better understand the Rule and their obligations under it, according to the release. Additionally, the extension and guidance are consistent with a request by the House Appropriations Committee to minimize the burden of implementing the Rule for healthcare providers and low-risk small businesses.
