Former MedPAC Member Says Cutting Costs Crucial for Health Reform

In an interview, Nicholas Wolter, MD, CEO of the Billings (Mont.) Clinic and a former commissioner of Medicare Payment Advisory Commission, said reducing healthcare costs will be crucial for health reform, according to a report by KULR TV in Billings.

“There are still many things to be discussed, like can we get some overall reduction in healthcare costs with some of the features in these plans,” he said. “I think that’s where there is going to be lots of discussion still and differences of opinion — in some of the details.”

The Billings Clinic operates a 272-bed hospital with more than 280 physicians and non-physician providers and is a partner in a statewide HMO, New West Health Services.
