Florida City Considers Extra Requirements for Opening New Pain Clinics

The city of Venice, Fla., is considering a new law that would require future pain management clinics to receive a special exception to open their facilities, according to a Herald Tribune report.

Obtaining the special exception would mean spending extra legal expenses for legitimate pain centers, which only apply to pain management specialists. Supporters of the legislation argue it would give the city a chance to screen out pill mills.

The neighboring city of North Port already adopted the special exception requirement for pain clinics.
