DePuy said that its Pinnacle CoMplete Acetabular Hip System is the first ceramic-on-metal hip bearing to be considered for approval in the United States.

The recommendation was based on a two-year study that found a 90 percent reduction in wear for the Pinnacle compared with a commonly used DePuy metal-on-metal implant.
