FDA Approves Total Ankle Replacement System

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the Scandinavian Total Ankle Replacement (S.T.A.R.) system, manufactured by Small Bone Innovations, to treat patients with a painful arthritic ankle joint due to osteoarthritis, post-traumatic arthritis or rheumatoid arthritis, according to a SBi news release.

The S.T.A.R. system, which has received pre-market approval, is a three-piece, mobile-bearing, non-constrained, uncemented total ankle replacement system and is currently the only total ankle replacement system approved for uncemented use.
