There was a team of professionals dedicated to the patient and one to preparing the donor arm during the procedure. Surgeons had to connect the bones, tendons, nerves, vessels and skin from the donor arm to the patient, who has already experienced nail and hair growth on the new arm.

The procedure was funded in part by the Department of Defense, in the hope that soldiers with lost limbs will find the procedure successful in the future.
