1. Lawrence Lemak, MD, trained first responders in Gardendale, Ala., on techniques to approach sports injuries.

 

2. Robert Flannery, MD, teaches an interactive class for the Gardendale Fire Department and high school trainers.

 

3. Dr. Flannery emphasizes how to properly handle athletes with possible concussions or spinal cord injuries.

 

4. In his class, firefighters learn the process of removing athletes’ helmets and properly placing athletes on boards for transport.
