Dr. Thomas Klootwyk steps down as Colts head team physician

Thomas Klootwyk, MD, of Carmel, Ind.-based Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics, is stepping down as head team physician of the Indianapolis Colts.

Dr. Klootwyk started in the role in 2017 after serving as an orthopedic consultant and associate team physician, according to a July 26 news release shared with Becker’s. He oversaw the team’s physicians through multiple seasons and two Super Bowl runs.

“Dr. Klootwyk’s leadership and guidance guaranteed our players were in the best possible hands — on and off the field, on game day and throughout the year,” Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay said in the release.

Dr. Klootwyk will continue to serve the Colts as a consultant. The next head team physician is expected to be chosen before Aug. 13.
