Dr. Robert Watkins III performs spine surgery on golfer Nicole Castrale: 5 things to know

Robert Watkins III, MD, performed spine surgery on desert golfer and Ladies Professional Golf Association winner Nicole Castrale, according to a report by The Desert Sun.

Here are five things to know:

 

1. Dr. Watkins and his team performed a laminotomy, removing some of the disc material and some ligaments in an arthroscopic procedure.

 

2. Ms. Castrale says she has no real timetable for returning to her playing career, noted the report.

 

3. Dr. Watkins is a co-director of the Marina Spine Center in Marina Del Rey, Calif.

 
4. He is a founding member of the North American Spine Society.

 

5. Dr. Watkins and his son, Robert Watkins IV, MD, are the spinal consultants for USC athletic programs and the L.A. Dodgers.
