Dr. Robert LaPrade performs surgery on sprinter Wayde van Niekerk: 4 points

Robert LaPrade, MD, operated on South African track and field sprinter Wayde van Niekerk, according to IOL.

Here are four points:

 

1. Dr. LaPrade performed surgery to repair medical and lateral tears of Mr. van Niekerk’s meniscus. The sprinter also suffered a torn ACL.

 

2. Mr. van Niekerk will be in rehabilitation for up to six months. He will return to South Africa where Louis Holtzhausen, MD, will continue the rehabilitation process.

 

3. Dr. LaPrade is an orthopedic surgeon at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo. He is also the chief medical officer and co-director of Vail, Colo.-based Steadman Philippon Research Institute’s sports medicine fellowship program.

 

4. In addition to his clinical work, Dr. LaPrade is on the editorial board of the American Journal of Sports Medicine and Knee Surgery, Sports Traumatology, Arthroscopy.
