Dr. Robert Anderson operates on D.C. United defender Steven Birnbaum

Robert Anderson, MD, surgically repaired D.C. United defender Steven Birnbaum’s ankle, the team announced March 15.

Dr. Anderson decompressed nerves in Mr. Birnbaum’s ankle and removed a part of his talus bone.

Mr. Birnbaum is expected to need 12 to 15 weeks to rehabilitate.

Dr. Anderson is an orthopedic surgeon, sports medicine physician, and foot and ankle specialist at Bellin Health Titletown Sports Medicine and Orthopedics in Green Bay, Wis.
