Here are five things to know:
1. Dr. Guyer performed anterior lumbar interbody fusion on Mr. Woods, who is expected to be out at least six months.
2. Mr. Woods’ pain was caused by a “severely narrowed” lower-back disc leading to sciatica, according to the report.
3. Dr. Guyer said the surgery was successful.
4. Mr. Woods hasn’t played since Feb. 3, 2017 because of back pain.
5. This is the fourth back surgery the 14-time major champion golfer has undergone since March 2014.
A statement on Mr. Woods’ website said, “Conservative therapy, which included rehabilitation, medications, limiting activities and injections, failed as a permanent solution, and Woods opted to have surgery.”
