The $250,000 grant will be used to further Dr. LeRoux’s efforts in treating athletes with concussions. Their current research has found that feeding three branched chain amino acids to animals with brain injuries can restore the appropriate balance of neurochemicals in the injured part of the brain and restore cognitive abilities.
The researchers will now focus on the investigation of dietary BCAAs in patients with sports-related concussions.
