1. Dr. Malhotra is a board-certified neurospine surgeon at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia. He assembled a team to remove a patient’s rare neck tumor in a three-part, two-day surgery spanning 20 hours.
2. The surgeons used a transoral robot designed by Bert O’Malley Jr., MD, to perform the procedure. The technology is routinely used for throat cancer surgery. This procedure is the first use of the robot for spine surgery.
