Neal ElAttrache, MD, will repair Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Corey Seager’s torn ulnar collateral ligament May 4, MLB.com reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Mr. Seager played through elbow pain late in the 2017 season. He spent the winter working to strengthen his UCL. However, after experiencing pain in his elbow this weekend, the team ordered an MRI discovering the tear.

2. Mr. Seager will miss the entire 2018 season but should be able to return for the 2019 season.

3. Dr. ElAttrache is an orthopedic surgeon at Cedars-Sinai Kerlan-Jobe Institute in Los Angeles. He is chairman of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Foundation board and program director for the Kerlan-Jobe fellowship.

4. He is the head team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams. He is also an orthopedic consultant to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Kings, Anaheim Ducks and the PGA Tour.
