Dr. Matthew Pifer steps into team physician role — 3 things to know

Orthopedic surgeon Matthew Pifer, MD, has been named team physician for Santa Barbara (Calif.) City College’s football program, the Santa Barbara News-Press reported March 1.

Three things to know:

1. Dr. Pifer succeeds Victor Tacconelli, MD, who recently retired after 37 years as team physician.

2. He specializes in shoulder procedures, sports medicine and regenerative therapies, including  platelet-rich plasma and stem cells.

3. Dr. Pifer completed a residency at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine in Royal Oak, Mich., and a shoulder fellowship at Kaiser Permanente in San Diego.
