Dr. Marc J. Philippon will perform season-ending hip surgery on San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey, MLB.com reports.

1. Mr. Posey played with a nagging hip injury throughout the 2018 season. He believes the injury results from the wear and tear of catching, rather than any specific incident.

2. Dr. Philippon will surgically repair Mr. Posey’s labral and remove a bone spur in his right hip. A typical recovery takes six to eight months.

3. Dr. Philippon is an orthopedic surgeon and managing partner at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo. He is also a U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Foundation trustee.

4. Additionally, Dr. Philippon serves as the sports medicine fellowship co-director and as co-chairman of the Steadman Philippon Research Institute in Vail.
