Dr. Lewis Yocum to Perform Elbow Surgery on Phillies Pitcher Jose Contreras

Lewis Yocum, MD, an orthopedic surgeon at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedics in Los Angeles, will perform elbow surgery on Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Jose Contreras, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report.

Mr. Contreras has experienced pain in his elbow, which could be caused by a bone spur or tendon issues. His problems stem back to April, when Phillies team physician Michael Ciccotti, MD, recommended surgery.

The surgery is season-ending, but Mr. Contreras hopes to begin pitching again next season.
