Right-hander Carter Baumler, a No. 18 prospect, had the surgery to replace an ulnar collateral ligament tear Oct. 28, the report said. Dr. Meister is an orthopedic surgeon and director of Texas Metroplex Institute for Sports Medicine & Orthopedics in Arlington.

The surgery is expected to sideline Baumler, 18, for 12 to 18 months, the report said. He was the only pitcher Baltimore drafted this year, and he signed with the team instead of taking an offer from Texas Christian University in Fort Worth.
