Dr. James Andrews to receive 2020 Horatio Alger Award — 5 insights

2. Dr. Andrews and 13 other business leaders will be recognized with Horatio Alger Awards.

3. Dr. Andrews spoke highly of the honor, saying he was “immediately drawn” to the organization’s mission of helping young students achieve their dreams by pursuing higher education.

4. Dr. Andrews graduated from Baton Rouge-based Louisiana State University, earned his medical degree from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans, and completed fellowships in sports medicine at Charlottesville-based University of Virginia and at the University of Lyon in France.

5. Dr. Andrews founded Birmingham, Ala.-based Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Clinic, where he practiced for years until he opened Andrews Institute in Gulf Breeze, Fla., in 2007. He later opened Children’s Health Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine in Plano, Texas, in 2017.
