1. Mr. Puk was shut down with bicep soreness last week. The discomfort traveled from his bicep to his forearm.

2. The team sent him to Phoenix-based OrthoArizona’s Doug Freedberg, MD, and then to Dr. Andrews, who confirmed Mr. Puk tore his ulnar collateral ligament.

3. Mr. Puk was the A’s top minor league prospect. He was expected to be a rookie in 2018.

4. Dr. Andrews is a founding partner of Gulf Breeze, Fla.-based Andrews Institute for Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine. He is one of the leading orthopedic surgeons in the world, and his center is internationally recognized for its sports medicine treatment.

5. Dr. Andrews is the Tampa Bay Rays’ orthopedic medical director.
