Dr. Andrews recommends young athletes ramp up slowly to performing activities to prevent injuries.

He created a series of steps for young athletes to follow:

  • Be aware of your body
  • Slowly acclimate to heat
  • Maintain daily habits
  • Complete a physical examination
  • Gradually progress weight training and plyometric activities
  • Practice proper hygiene and infection-prevention strategies

Dr. Andrews said, “While many athletes stayed active during the quarantine period, it will take time to achieve prior levels of athletic conditioning needed for participation in sport.”
