Dr. James Andrews Performs Tommy John on A’s Pitcher Bret Anderson

Oakland Athletics pitcher Brett Anderson recently underwent ulnar collateral ligament repair surgery, performed by James Andrews, MD, according to an MLB report.

Mr. Anderson has experienced sporadic discomfort in his elbow and received a platelet-rich plasma injection earlier this year. During the procedure, Dr. Andrews removed the gracilis tendon in Mr. Anderson’s hamstring to use as a graft in the elbow repair.

Mr. Anderson will spend one to two years recovering from the surgery before he is able to begin pitching again.
