Dr. James Andrews performs knee surgery on Chiefs’ Jamaal Charles — 5 key points

James Andrews, MD, performed arthroscopic knee surgery on the Kansas City Chiefs’ running back Jamaal Charles, according to ESPN.

1. Mr. Charles injured his right knee’s anterior cruciate ligament during a game in October 2015.

 

2. Dr. Andrews is a founding member of Birmingham, Ala.-based Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopaedic Center and a co-founder of American Sports Medicine Institute, a nonprofit institute that focuses on injury prevention as well as orthopedic and sports medicine education and research.

 

3. He earned his medical degree from Baton Rouge-based Louisiana State University School of Medicine.

 

4. Following medical school, he completed his residency at Tulane Medical School in New Orleans.

 

5. Dr. James Andrews completed fellowships at Charlottesville-based University of Virginia Medical School and University of Lyon in France.
