The decision to undergo surgery was made after consultation with Dr. Paletta and a second opinion from Lewis Yocum, MD, of Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles. There isn’t a date set for the surgery yet, and recovery usually takes between 12 and 15 months.
Mr. Wainwright was previously diagnosed with a sprained ligament twice in his career and missed the last start of the 2010 season because of forearm irritation. A follow-up examination showed that the elbow’s structure was sound in November.
