Mr. Collins suffered a ruptured disc, which Dr. Cammisa removed before performing a spinal fusion. He used bone from Mr. Collins’ iliac crest to promote the fusion. It remains uncertain whether Mr. Collins will return to play or retire from his football career due to the injury.
