Dr. Douglas Dirschl to Chair University of Chicago’s Orthopedic Surgery Department

The University of Chicago Medicine has announced that Douglas R. Dirschl, MD, will chair the newly-created orthopedic surgery department, according to a Newswise report.

Dr. Dirschl will assume his post on Jan. 1, 2013. He previously served as the chairman and distinguished professor of the department of orthopedics at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. He has been president of the American Orthopaedic Association where he helped launch the organization’s “Own the Bone” campaign to increase awareness of bone loss and osteoporosis.
