Dr. Doug Carlan operating on Tampa Bay Rays’ Kevin Kiermaier, to be out at least 12 weeks

Doug Carlan, MD, will repair the torn ligament in the right thumb of Tampa Bay Rays’ outfielder Kevin Kiermaier, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Mr. Kiermaier tore the ligament sliding headfirst into second base April 15.

2. While recovery can fluctuate between eight to 12 weeks, it’s expected Mr. Kiermaier will need the entire 12 weeks.

3. Dr. Carlan previously performed two other surgeries on Mr. Kiermaier.

4. Dr. Carlan is an orthopedic surgeon at St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Eaton Orthopaedics.
