Dr. Laurencin is the CEO of the Connecticut Institute for Clinical and Translational Science, director of the Institute for Regenerative Engineering and the Van Dusen Endowed Chair of orthopedic surgery at the New England Musculoskeletal Institute. He has a professional interest in shoulder and knee surgery and leads tissue engineering research.
In 2009, Dr. Laurencin won the Presidential Award for Excellence from President Barack Obama for his work. He earned his medical degree at Harvard Medical School in Boston, where he also completed his residency. His additional training includes a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the Cornell University Medical Center and the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.
