Dr. Brian Shafer examining broken wrist of Dodgers’ Justin Turner, who is out indefinitely

Brian Shafer, MD, will examine the broken wrist of Los Angeles Dodgers’ third baseman Justin Turner, after he suffered a non-displaced fracture March 19, MLB.com reports.

Here’s what you should know.

1. Mr. Turner was hit in the hand by a pitch from Oakland Athletics’ pitcher Kendall Graveman.

2. It’s expected Mr. Turner will miss at least a few weeks of the 2018 season. Dr. Shafer will determine how long Mr. Turner will be sidelined.

3. The team is not expected to make any moves to replace Mr. Turner while he is out.

4. Dr. Shafer is an orthopedic surgeon at Phoenix-based OrthoArizona.

5. He serves as a team orthopedic surgeon for the Dodgers and the NHL’s Phoenix Coyotes.
