The surgery repaired the side effects from a torn labrum Mr. Umenyiora suffered in 2006. He previously visited Marc Philippon, MD, a surgeon at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colo., who recommended Mr. Umenyiora have surgery immediately. However, he decided to wait until the end of the season.
Mr. Umenyiora’s recovery time is expected to be three months, and he could be limited in offseason workouts and organized team activities.
